When will real issues address in the campaign?

As the 15th Lok Sobha election knocks at the door, various national and regional parties are busy in releasing their manifestos. Not only that, various party members have resigned from their respective portfolio in order to campaign and back the party. Candidates are busy holding rallies and meetings in their respective constituencies to convey their policies and plans in coming five years for the people. Not unexpected anyway.

Country like America, the candidates start their campaigning fifteen months before the election. Way of campaigning and addressing people in rallies and meetings are completely different from India. Its leader is elected on the basis of intelligence, elegance, capability to address various issues, able to confront with difficulties and the slogan. The recent slogan (Change we can believe in) that Barack Obama put forward was startling. He convincingly said that Americans can believe in change in their country.

They were relieved with his speech that at least some one is talking about change of their country. In his campaign he talked about various grave issues that their country men are facing in their daily life. He delivered his speech with burning zeal to change and bring transformation in the society. He was at least if not all to some extend could convince people and ultimately broke the decades long history of America by becoming as the first Afro-American or Black President.

Whereas in India, candidates begin just fifteen days before the actual election. Way of campaigning is also different compared to the former. Here things work differently. In India, electing of Prime Minister (PM) does not depend on the amount of speeches he deliver, how well speaker he is, how much good in administration etc. Indian way of electing PM is solely depends on the party’s decision and the numbers of MPs that party wins. Even the weakest person can be PM as is present alleged by BJP.

Indian politic works on the basis of caste, creed, religion, and communal speeches. Each and every party has their own agendas to campaign in the rallies which help them if not all the candidates at least some to win.

The real and interesting drama is in the campaigning. More often then not, politicians try their funs to impress by delivering hate speech against minority, religion, caste etc. For this year, it has begun with Gandhi family. Varun Gandhi, grand son of Nehru, started his political career by delivering his hate speech against minority who finally, instead of winning his funs landed up in jail. Lalu Prasad Yadav, the RJD chief, has come out in defence not out of his sympathy but an eye on vote. He has gone to an extend by saying he would roll Varun down with bulldozer if he once again speak against his Muslims brother. Poor mother (Moneka Gandhi) lodged a complaint against Mr. Lalu for allegedly making murder statement. The EC has sent a notice to Lalu. After him followed by the Vaiko who seems to be saviour of war affected Tamil people of Sri Lanka. In his speech he threatened bloodbath in Tamil Nadu if LTTE chief V. Prabhakaran is attacked. He allegedly called Sonia Gandhi as murderer.

Not only hate speech against some minority, religion or caste. Look at our BJP, PM Ministerial candidate L. K. Advani who called Dr. Monmahan Singh as the weakest PM that India ever had in history. In his retaliation Dr. Singh asked, as the Home Minister of country what had Advani done for the country? Terming, Babri Masjib demolition was the greatest achievement of his life. On the other hand, Sonia Gandhi’s election speech is always confined with outdated allegations on BJP party’s pitfalls, like Kandahar issue, terrorist attacked on Parliament, and Godra carnage. Nerendra Modi calling Congress party as 150 years old ‘Gudiya’ is ridiculous.

What we need to ask question is are these statements made by different leaders related to coming general election? What have we to do with personal attack with development and prosperity of our country? What are they trying to convey to the public? Politicians seem to be futile in bringing out real issues that are connected to the mass. Amount of rallies and campaigns that leaders of our country addressed seem issueless so far. We have to wait in the days to come to get some inspiration from our leaders like that of Barak Obama’s slogan ‘Change we can believe in Indian Politics’. They need to be directed by young people of the country.

India has yet to become a democracy. the idiosyncrasy that prevails in the Indian political system is the product of our voting habit that has never really given a thought to who deserves and who do not. We vote the parties not the the individual and we are so obsessed that we won't even look at the fact that the party is doing nothing for the betterment of this country. Congress has ruled the center for the major part but we hardly see anything new to their agenda.
India won't see the real issues being addressed unless we decide not to vote those who have nothing to say new forget doing anything new.

India is still surviving as a democracy only because parties still exist here and we don’t vote for individual but for party. Real issues will be addressed by the parties only and not by individuals.

In Indian democracy it’s the number of heads that really matters. We care a damn what really exists in these brains as thoughts and vision.

Had electorates really elected governments on basis of vision and policies,India would have been a different country.Indians are still unable to make judicious choices.Emotions still dictate reason for most of us.

However, having said that, I do not wish to appear pessimistic.I can see that electorates are now beginning to make better choices.
