Will I make difference in the Country? Will I be able to make change in the country by practising my fundamental right in the 15th general election? Can I change the system by voting my favourite party in the election? These are the questions came into my mind since the dates of general election were officially announced on the month of April.

Everybody believes that practising our franchise we can make difference in the country. As the aphorism goes, “one vote can make difference.” But the unanswered question is how much millions of Indians made difference in the country since Independence? I am sure that some of them have been exercising their franchise since 1952 when the general election was held for the first time in India. Did they make difference in the country? The honest answers are ‘yes’, ‘no’, and ‘may be’ as the Indians are fond of saying that.

India is 62 year old independent. Some brilliant Indians are keen of flattering it by saying India is still young therefore much of its developments have not taken place due slow growth of economy like any other countries. Saying is crap. 62 years of Independence is not young I suppose. We can not compare with underdeveloped countries which India is not. Comparison leads no where. The reasons being not able to come up like other developed countries are not with the people but with the governance. Corruptions, scams, cheating and scandals are deeply rooted in from the top level to the bottom. It seems cancer of the government which are incurable. Are we then responsible for that?

To be candid. I am a 27 year old. I would have exercised my fundamental right twice by now. But neither in State Assembly nor in general election so far have I voted. Not because I do not believe in political system or fundamental right. It is because I do not have faith in the political party. Even if I exercise my franchise what will I make difference in the society? I am totally committed to bring change in the country. My commitment and dedication is futile as i do not have the power to change our society. I have been seeing with own my eyes for 27 years how much development have taken place in my area. Sweet promises are distant dreams of the people. My personal opinion in voting is like preparing a candidate to commit grave sin because after getting power he/she will be master of corruption and scams/scandals. Hope, by not voting I am not violating any law of the land. Not voting any candidate is personal decision. In short, I do not believe in voting.

Democracy is said to be for the people, of the people and by the people. Is it right and correct definition of it? It is perfectly defined and designed but in practise no longer easy job. It is high time to redefine it as for the politician, of the politician and by the politician. In short, democracy is PPP.

Indeed, if people of India collectively do not make effort to change the system there will be no change at all in the country in the years to come. Corruption and scams will more and more spread like virus everywhere.

Let us take into our hearts seriously the slogan “Change we can believe in” which was extolled by millions of Americans when newly elected Barak Obama said in his campaign.

A corn broom isn’t sufficient to clean a house with as mutch dirt as there is in Indian politics and is what all politicians produce
The little guy doesn’t have much change of changing things because most of the strategy to brainwash the who care masses is done behind closed doors by psychologists that know how easy it is to fool people to busy just trying to live to care

Great changes do no happen all of a sudden. They need sacrifices apart from a strong collective will interested in bringing a change against all odds. Are we ready to make sacrifices? If we are not interested in making big sacrifices,we can still make a difference by doing all that which we can do from our side...Drops make an ocean..This is a longer route towards better days. However, greater changes takes place via revolutions.

And yes,if we feel we are useless creatures incapable of making changes.A word of advice to this category of people:Just keep their mouths shut.Just don’t open your mouths and make your pessimistic views get spread in the air !Allow others to make their efforts amid better views!!

Arvind,

Look at China and Israel. How fast they have developed. It is the devotion and dedication of the ruler and ruled. There should be no room for power mania and corruption. Equality to man is a forgotten thing in India. It is formal festival once in five years. And the less percentagae voting means, many are disgusted with the system.

Its not only you or me.........there must be around 70% of youth who do not practice their voting right.....not because they don't want to but because they know that nothing is gonna change......what is difference if we choose between Ravana or Duryodhana......both will bring bad luck any ways

It is the failure of Political system we see in India. Multiplication of Political parties for individual or group gains is said to be the present scenerio. These regional parties are based on caste, religion etc and serve for that only narrow ends. The commitment to develop India might had been with the very old parties. But these ’old’ parties also have lost control over their vote bank and these too are said to be in the control of some vested interests. There is no guarantee of a single party coming to power and doing good for people. Each regional party which are very much dependent on / dictated by one or two individual leaders who have total control of the party are now becoming a ’bargainer’ for alliance with some ’single majority’ party. Their bargains are for support to form Government is thought to be not for doing something good for the people but for gains to these individuals or groups. If this is the fate of our ballots which ’empower’ such exploiters, where and when our Country will prosper? What is our role in this exploitative world? The political leaders have become more family oriented and they worry about the future of their children and their control over the party in future. The nominations for party seats are now fought by each politician for relatives and children to get a seat. India needs only two national level parties and let these parties have a democratic set up of leadership and then the common man will really represent in Governance. When this day will come?
